Symmons Plains is a short, tight track, only 2.4km long with lap times in the low 50 second range, so the racing is incredibly close and usually quite spectacular.
The key to this track is having a car that plants the power out of the tight corners and is strong under brakes, and looking after your brakes is extremely important. It’s a ‘point and squirt’ type of circuit where the entire field is customarily separated by less than one second so qualifying up the pointy end of the field is paramount.

That’s the thing with V8 Supercars, the competition is so close that you can’t afford to stand still and you’ve got to continually develop the cars, and designing and building new components from scratch takes time – some components have taken up to seven months to actually reach the car.
With so much having gone on behind the scenes at the raceshop it’s vital that we finish the year off strongly, while the chassis and engine work we’ve done this year will allow us to hit the track running in 2009.
And on next year, there’s been a lot of talk and speculation about what Rick and I are doing. Nothing’s confirmed yet, we’re flat out working through a number of things, but we’re hoping to announce our future plans over the coming weeks. I can assure you that if everything comes together as we hope next year will be very, very exciting.
