The Jack Daniel's Racing crew did a great job to replace the component and get Todd Kelly back on track to finish the race and be classified as a finisher, nine laps down in 29th place.
James Courtney won today's race ahead of Craig Lowndes and Shane Van Gisbergen.
JACK DANIEL'S RACING QUOTEBOARD
RICK KELLY - #15 Jack Daniel's Racing Holden Commodore:
"At the start the car in front of us didn't get a good jump so it forced me to the left, where there was not enough space and I got boxed in next to Jamie (Whincup)," said Rick Kelly.
"I still got past two cars before Turn 1 and one or two others up into Turn 3 so the start was good for us.
"In the first few laps I was surprised with our Jack Daniel's Commodore's pace compared to the others but I knew in the back of my mind that I would be killing my tyres quicker than they were, but I thought I would capitalise on it while we had the pace and pass the cars while the opportunity was there.
"After our stop I was very careful with our second set but our tyres still deteriorated a little bit quicker than the others.
"So overall we had a reasonable gain from practice and qualifying but we just needed to get more out of the tyre and make them last a little longer."
TODD KELLY - #7 Jack Daniel's Racing Holden Commodore:
"Unfortunately we made contact with another car out there and it bent the steering arm," said Todd Kelly.
"The crew did an outstanding job to change the arm and get out back out there to be classified as a finisher, but unfortunately our race was ruined.
"We finished on the same set of tyres to save our rubber for tomorrow. We will look to do a better job in qualifying and tyre to get a result."
